Oh, that's great! The auction is open to view every day from now through Wednesday, so if they're in Edinburgh they can stop in and see the pearl in person!
Still wrapping my head around "Scottish Pearl Diver". I mean, they'll sink for sure, but getting back up to the surface? I dunno. I'm picturing a big wooden tripod, a frayed rope and a ton of wet wool.
This is so fun—love the Sarah Bernhardt stuff, as always. I was doing a tour of the art gallery collections where I work, and they had a bust, and I thought, why do I know that face? It was Sarah Bernhardt, of course. What a legend.
I also feel like this is a good place to share how excited I am that my students are going to be researching some of their decorative arts pieces this semester! I got to peek at a few, including a fun majolica dish with a sardine handle on the lid and an art nouveau wall clock.
Oh I love this!! Yay decorative arts! They always get overlooked in favor of other stuff. It's impossible to cover everything, so I get it, but there's such a wealth of history in a lot of those pieces. I'm so glad you're having your kids focus in on them. You can't beat a good sardine handle! lol
Fabulous, as always, Thank you! Mucha was mucho talented, I had seen some of his art before but was really taken with his jewelry (and rendering) in the link you provided. Loved the Outlander books, and the Starz series was brilliantly cast, well worth a visit!
Thank you, I’m so glad you liked it! I read the first Outlander book way back in the ‘90s (when I was working at the front desk of Freeman’s auction house, funnily enough), but I never kept up with the series. Some day I’ll get back to it, I’m sure!
Monica! is it possible for you to turn on an "read in browser" link for the email? I like getting the newsletter in my email inbox like a reminder, but I don't like reading IN my inbox. <3
Hiiiiii! If you click on the headline in the email it should (hopefully!) take you directly to the online version. But let me know if that doesn't work for you, and I'll figure something out.
I actually have a new post in progress right now so I'll make sure to double-check it when I send the test to myself over the weekend (or whenever I get my shit together lol sob).
That pearl! I'm glad he kept the location a secret.
Also happy that I'm not the only one who adds "bang!" when I hear "Ford Mustang". That's the song that made me a Gainsbourg fan.
Oh, I’m so glad you love it too! I think it was one of my intros to Gainsbourg as well. Soooperman!
Magnificent. Sending to my friend who is travelling in Scotland right now!

LOL at the wet wool. So evocative!
Fascinating stuff from the world of antiques, auctions
Thank you!
