I am a notorious Franklin Expedition junkie and I have to tell you that I CACKLED at the description of James Clark Ross as "an absolute smokeshow". IIRC they really did call him the handsomest man in the Royal Navy. And that portrait. So freakin' extra, with the bearskin and the north star and everything.
Oh, I'm so glad!! Thank you so much. And yes - 19th century Arctic exploration is one of my all-time favorite subjects, and the desk is a great story that needs to get out more. Pass it along!
Another vote of appreciation for this newsletter! Your posts were one of my favorite things on the Hairpin, and I was so excited when you started this.
(Also, I credit you with why I now own an old filigree ring that I love. It didn't occur to me before your work that beautiful, unique jewelry could be attainable!)
Just a general comment of appreciation and encouragement! I love this newsletter and I'm always happy to spend 10 minutes marveling at the fantastic stuff you send us. Thank you, Monica!

That HAIR. *grabby hands*
I never ever want this to feel like a chore to you because I find it such a delight!
I also deeply DEEPLY covet the vesta case
I love your posts and am so delighted I can now tell you! Mind blown by the story of the Resolute Desk. I'm always happy to see you in my inbox--xo

Yes! Definitely attainable! Thank you - you have NO IDEA how happy that makes me. Enjoy your lovely old ring. <3
