My students did a project with our campus art museum last semester, which included processing a lot of Art Nouveau silverware. I ended up identifying what they had labeled a "poultry fork" as a bread fork?! And now I'm obsessed with weirdly specific cutlery.
What a wonderful round up! Touching on the Iris auction as well in our next post. A dream to own really any of her incredible collection of thingies and French chairs
Thanks! And yes, the Iris auction is such an incredible collection. A lot of people are already bidding, so it's going to be interesting to follow along and see which things grab the most attention. The bangles I posted are already up to $2600!
"I’ve noticed that even in just the past 5-10 years there are far fewer interesting things coming up for auction. It feels like it’s just a vast sea of VC&A Alhambra jewelry." Indeed (yawn).
We were given antique pastry forks as a wedding present. The elderly relatives who gave them to us said we could always sell them if we landed on hard times! They also said that they are really practical. We have not had to sell them, and they are practical.
Excuse me, that's not by Gorham it's by Gotham and it is owned by Mr. Freeze
Lol! You're 100% correct!
I'd have to sell my 18th Century Claremont Persian Rug, but an El Greco would totally rock my dining room wall.
Next to my Scooby-Doo Nutmeg Grater/Pez Dispenser.
And your narwhal horn!
Not selling the narwhal horn, it's my lucky piece.
Ugh, I love those pastry forks. - J
They're gorgeous. Doing this newsletter is brutal because I'm forever finding things I never knew existed but suddenly desperately need.

That crown! My kingdom for the Swedish wedding crown!
It's so simple and elegant!
I love Art Nouveau, and Knox's pastry forks are so wonderfully elegant!
I agree! They're beautiful!

I'm so sick of it!
