I'm so glad you all enjoyed this one! I did, too. It felt like the old days, when there seemed to be more interesting, old and unusual things around. Lately it seems like I spend hours scrolling through auction after auction and they all have the exact same big, Retro mid-century yellow gold jewelry that everybody else has. It's a drag. How many Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra necklaces does the world need? A LOT FEWER
I love EVERYTHING in this one! The monkey's face, the Guiliano necklace, THE BOX, the carriage clock (which looks like your logo made by a dyslexic Victorian) and the astrolabe which makes me think that our race has lost a step or two in the brain department over the last few centuries. Thanks for making my morning!
Monica, I love your newsletter. So many goodies! SO much joy! The MONKEY...his face...the detail...the fact that he is a lighter! And the Deco necklace (which I'm on Butter Lane's site now thank you...)!!
I went after the reading dog painting but alas, was outbid. It was fascinating watching the auction at any rate; sometimes it's obvious when a painting is going to be popular and sometimes there were outright bidding wars while I sat there going "really? her?"
Oh boo! I'm sorry you were outbid; that's a wonderful little painting. Those two greyhound paintings certainly brought in some bucks - $44k for the white one!? Holy cow! I totally agree - auctions are absolutely fascinating to watch and wonder over.
The cabochon ring set reminds me of a vintage Gucci watch set that comes with interchangeable bezels in a bunch of different colors. So fun! https://www.ebay.com/itm/235328249951
Wow. Excellent array of awesomeness. The Giuliano necklace is absolutely humbling. How human hands could have made this 2 centuries ago is just beyond. The monkey sits in quiet mockery of us all pretending to look at its phone knowing full well its just a piece of his own ass.
I agree with Melanie, so many things I covet but, one ring to rule them all, I want that astrolabe. Im a long time (since teen years) astrologer and no I can not help myself because a lifetime of observation can not be forsaken.
I had a column about auctions, antiques, buying, art shows on the English language newspapers in Rome during the 70s-90s so acquired a huge collection of auction and antique show catalogues. My favorite was Magnificent Jewels so I really appreciate your articles. Thanks ....
Desperate to find a better way to store my jewelry. I’m tired of hunting through boxes, forgetting what I own. I have mainly inherited vintage and some are large cuffs. I’m thinking trays?

Going to buy that travelling cabinet and use it for plane snacks for myself and my row friends. "Nuts? Gum? Caramel? Banana chips?"

Once again, your newsletter is the highlight of my week! Monkey joy!

Oh my gosh, yes! I forgot about them!!

That necklace! Actually both!
Such a pleasure to view this treasure trove of delights, Monica. Thank you!
Fascinating, as always! I love that pocket globe in the London Bonhams auction. I want one!
So wonderful, thanks!

Great haul.
